Está construida hacia el año 700, es el principal centro urbano de la antigua civilización Tayrona y constituye uno de los yacimientos arqueológicos más importantes para la investigación de esta cultura. Aquí hay plazoletas circulares, escaleras, caminos y canales construidos en piedra que sirvieron de base a viviendas hechas en paja y bahareque. Cuando los tayronas vivían, los diversos pueblos indígenas de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta se comunicaban por medio de caminos de piedra. Habitaban bohíos circulares sin ventanas y con techos de palma sobre terrazas de piedra.

Ciudad perdida is undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic and magnificent destinations in Colombia, a place that is immersed in the immense Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta that you must visit.

The first thing you have to do is to get to the city of Santa Marta, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Once there, the only way you can do the trekking is through one of the five companies authorized by the government to take you on a guided tour, either 4 or 5 days through the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Ciudad Perdida can be reached by taking the Santa Marta-Riohacha road and turning off at the site known as Guacha Puerto Nuevo, at kilometer 52, towards the town of El Mamey. From that point, it is two or three days to the archeological park, following a bridle path and a pedestrian trail.

  • You will discover a lost city, after walking for 2 hours, climbing 1,200 steps and crossing a river you will see the imposing Colombian Teyuna, which are no more and no less than 211 ancient terraces from the year 700 A.D. built by the Tayrona, still surrounded by almost intact vegetation, and if you are lucky you may see a Kogui family with their children.

SOME TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Carry all your electronic devices charged and, if possible, carry a portable battery.
  • Bring a 1.5 liter bottle of water for the first day. You will be supplied with the necessary water during the trip.
  • Take with you what you really need for 4 days, remember that it is a long trek and that, if you bring less things, the trek will be easier.
  • Wear comfortable clothing such as a short T-shirt for walking because the weather is hot and humid and at night it is important to wear long pants and long-sleeved sweaters to sleep because of mosquitoes or insects.
  • Please note that this is an eco-friendly destination with some adaptations to the accommodations, bathrooms and rest area to ensure a pleasant experience.
  • During the trip, follow the guide's instructions at all times.
  • In each camp there are stores where you can buy Gatorade, water, drinks and snacks.
  • You are responsible for your personal belongings. Take care of them.
  • At this point many have injuries from the previous long days, I recommend keeping a couple of painkillers for the road in case you need them.
  • Prohibited: Drugs, excessive alcohol, prostitution and bad behavior that threatens others.
