We travel to the night of the fire of Salamis

Let's travel to the night of the fire of Salamina, visit this magical town, we'll take you there!

Day 1: Arrival

The trip began on Sunday, we traveled from Medellin to Manizales on a short flight without mishaps. At the airport part of the team was already waiting for us to move to the center of Manizales where we had a delicious lunch and with a full stomach the adventure began. We walked the Polish Corridor of the Cathedral Basilica, 392 steps took us to the highest part where the effort was rewarded with a wonderful 360° view of the city.

At the end of the tour we enjoyed a coffee and started our way to Salamina in which we took a little more than two hours. Arriving at our destination we found a beautiful and very clean colonial type hotel, we left our bags and went to lunch.

The restaurant left us impressed, the entrance is like an old house, but upon entering we were greeted by an intimate place with dim lights, fireplace and garden with a very nice meal.

Day 2: Coffee in the mountains

We went down early to the hotel restaurant, the delicious breakfasts and the kindness of the staff were giving us an idea of what was to come and we were already beginning to fall in love with Salamina.

Jeeps were waiting for us and we left for our first destination: a coffee farm where we picked coffee and learned all about the process of this fruit from the seed to the cup.

We had lunch of country cold cuts, custard and fritters, freshly squeezed guarapo and coffee. The perfect example that food was not lacking in this trip. We witnessed various artistic displays typical of the region and traditional games such as yoyo, spinning top and balero.

In the afternoon we returned to Salamina, visited the most beautiful hotels and had dinner near the main park.

Day 3: Night of fire in Salamina

We had an early breakfast to tour the Historic Center, in the atmosphere we felt that it would be an important day, some people were already outside their homes preparing the lanterns that would dress the whole town at night.

We had lunch, tried the traditional Macana and steamed eggs. Later we returned to take the Jeeps to meet with some entrepreneurs who told us about their projects and how they bet on Salamina to undertake.

We returned to Salamina to find the real welcome to December, the streets full of lanterns and people with Christmas music in their homes or locals provided the touch that was missing to finish animating the atmosphere.

Night fell and we had the elegant dinner that can not miss on trips, this occasion was important: we would live our first Night of Fire and we were looking forward to it. We had dinner and the tour began, the colorful lanterns and lights adorned every corner of the town, the scene was magical and seemed straight out of a Christmas dream (mine). You could feel the joy and excitement growing, you could hear the locals talking about the central show at midnight, a videomapping show over the church in the main park that would end with a fireworks show.

The show was awesome and left us all with our mouths open and even though we were very tired at this point, we enjoyed it until the last minute.

Day 4: Samaria Valley

Valle Samaria

We had breakfast and left early to get to know San Felix, again the Jeeps were waiting for us, which always give a more fun touch to every experience. On the way we saw colorful houses that decorated the summit and after a little more than an hour we arrived at paradise, a beautiful valley full of huge and imposing wax palms.

Not even the cold of the 3000 meters of altitude dulled the beauty of these lands, the palms touched the sky and left us speechless, we were in the Cocora Valley of Caldas and we had it almost all to ourselves. We toured the place while watching birds and learning about biodiversity.

We returned in the evening to the main park of San Felix where we had dinner before returning to Salamina.

When we arrived at the hotel, some continued with the party that was still going on in the town, others rested to return early the next day to our cities.

Undoubtedly on this trip we had an unforgettable experience, we met and fell in love with this Heritage Village and its unparalleled culture, witnessed spectacular scenery, tasted delicious food, met the kindest people, saw birds that we did not know and experienced a little piece of the way of living Christmas in this place of Caldas.
