I have been working with tourism for eight years. When I started to think about the idea of what I wanted to do, I dreamed of creating routes through Colombia so that many foreigners could come and show them the true face of Colombians. I dreamed of working hand in hand with small tourism companies in the different regions of Colombia, where the community is linked, where you can work to improve the community. Because when I travel, what I want is to be able to share with people from the country I visit, to teach me about their culture, to be able to talk for a while and put myself in their shoes. To be able to learn from the Balinese their gratitude, from the Japanese their discipline and respect for their elders, from the Thai their ease of living and their joy, and I could go on giving examples. But when you travel in part you want to see iconic places, but the most important thing that travel leaves us is to open our eyes and change the way we think, to learn from the difference.
And that was what I wanted eight years ago, that many foreigners would come to Colombia and realize who we Colombians really are, and see our joy, spontaneity and kindness. Surely eight years ago was not the time, because I had to learn a lot of things before embarking on such a task. But today I am more sure than ever that it is time to resume that plan. But with a different approach.
Today we Colombians are the ones who have to value what is ours, to love what is local. To love our mountains, rivers, towns, gastronomy, the different cultures that inhabit our country. To love our diverse roots. But to do so we must know it, we must travel through our territory to love it and feel proud to be Colombians.
Today more than ever we have to act to take care of each other, to unite as a country, because there are many who have dreamed of Colombia and have bet their time, money and energy to believe in tourism in Colombia. And this is why WE ARE WAITING FOR YOU. With this initiative we seek in Go and Travel that all tour operators in our country do not go bankrupt, and do not have to close precisely in 2020, when we were selected as the best destination in the world to travel. We created a website where our operators have created unique experiences to discover Colombia and where you can support us by booking them and paying 25%. This money will allow us to cover fixed costs to last as long as necessary. And to reopen with more strength, because the first ones who will travel Colombia again are us and we deserve to live our country in the best possible way.
