Muchos sabemos de la existencia San Rafael de Antioquia, este hermoso pueblo del oriente Antioqueño, pocos lo han visitado. El 80% de su población sufrió un desplazamiento forzado debido a la violencia de los años 1997 al 2010. Su historia siempre estuvo marcada por la riqueza hídrica, la piedra del Peñol y el Embalse de Guatapé.

Recomendaciones para visitarlo desde Medellín:

Para el viaje a San Rafael de Antioquia, es necesario llevar ropa de abrigo (En las noches puede hacer frío) vestido de baño, repelente de mosquitos y zapatos para caminar por el campo. San Rafael se encuentra a tres horas de la ciudad de Medellín por la vía a Guatapé y nuestra ruta recomendada para llegar es:

  • Departure at 6:00 am via Las Palmas and take the Túnel de Oriente.
  • Make the first stop for breakfast.
  • After this stop you continue directly to Guatapé. If you do not know this town you can add a day to the route. A technical stop to stretch your feet and rest a little.
  • Continue to San Rafael, because there is a lot to see. This town is not too crowded with visitors and is perfect for ecotourism, enjoying its rivers and ponds. Its exuberant richness and natural beauty make it the ideal place to connect with you and your family. Listening to the sound of the river, birds and other animals will be the music that will accompany you on this adventure.
  • Debes llegar al parque principal del pueblo, donde te estará esperando nuestro guía local, donde te contarán un poco de la historia del pueblo y luego te llevarán a caminar por las calles de este lindo municipio y visitarán la casa museo. For us, one of the places you should visit is the Zafra Reserve, located 20 minutes from town on a dirt road, but in good condition. The Arenal River is the most precious natural resource of the territory.

You must visit the old soccer field, a space dedicated to the memory of the victims of the armed conflict in the area. A place full of trees and nature that transmits peace to all its inhabitants.

Tour of the Arenal River Canyon:

A tour through the basin of the Arenal River, crossing its crystal clear waters to the waterfall of La Honda, a waterfall of 20 meters high with a natural pool to refresh the spirit.
