The Amazon, the lungs of the world.

Updated: Aug 28, 2020

With the backpack loaded with adventure equipment, boots, a good waterproof jacket, not too brightly colored clothes and mosquito repellent, we go to explore one of the most important areas of the world, a trip through the Amazon. We leave Bogota on a flight to Leticia, from the window you begin to see the immensity of this area, the Amazon River has a length of more than six thousand kilometers, making it the longest in the world. In this area inhabit more than two hundred species of mammals and about one hundred and ninety-five different species of reptiles.

Upon our arrival they were waiting for us to take us to the hotel and it was not just any hotel, what better than arriving and being able to sleep in a tree house, twelve meters high, listening to all the sounds of the Amazon. I am afraid of spiders and I was waiting for a walk through the jungle at night, (obviously with a guide, you can not do otherwise), fortunately I was with Juanma, my husband to save me. After the walk we returned to our cabin, eager to live and listen to all that the jungle had to give us.

At six o'clock in the morning like a programmed clock the jungle wakes up, the sounds of dawn make their appearance. It was a spectacular sunrise, we woke up recharged and ready for the next adventure. The guide picked us up and we went to Wayruru, where the Huitoto indigenous community is located, to spend a day learning about their ancestral knowledge. After walking through the jungle we were welcomed by the Curaca, the chief of the population and taught how to prepare the mambe.

We spent the night with the community, sleeping in hammocks and obviously with the awning to avoid being food for the mosquitoes.

Each day the trip became more intense. The next morning we sailed for an hour down the river to our next lodge, located inside the Amazonas Lodge Nature Reserve. After arriving we went to the Victoria Regia Natural Reserve, to see the lotus flowers, we continued navigating the Amazon and we met the mythical pink dolphins. We spent a magnificent afternoon sailing, you realize the immensity of the world, of nature, we did not see the riviera on the other side. We returned to the hotel and went to spend the afternoon in the natural pools of the reserve.

I think we love the jungle! We had breakfast in the middle of the reserve surrounded by the community. We started the day visiting the Marasha Natural Reserve, very close to the border with Peru and again using the jungle highways, canals and boats. Upon arrival we did a kayak ride where we saw monkeys, lots of birds and even crocodiles (crazy to see so many free animals). And at night, a night safari, we were in search of the Black Caiman. We were the two of us, our guide and the boat driver, a total adventure, I almost died of fright because even though we were going to look for it, in my heart I preferred not to find it. We found it, we were so excited to see this huge animal that we forgot everything.

Nature surprises you all the time. We arrive at our hotel and enjoy our last night in paradise. On our last day we return to Leticia very early to take our flight back to Bogota.
