IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO COLOMBIA?

We know that when traveling to Colombia you may have some doubts and fears for your safety, and the story of insecurity in the 90's in Colombia that was popularized thanks to series and movies has changed.

Colombia is a land of resilience and this is demonstrated by its people who have worked day after day to make their home the home of all. In this place of happy people, music, party, but above all a lot of nature you will discover that as the slogan says: the real risk is that you want to stay.

As in every place in the world, precautions are necessary, but that is not an impediment to enjoy all the wonders you can find here, so we tell you our recommendations for your trip to be perfect, you fall in love with our country and all the fears you had, are changed by stories, adventures and memories that you will take back home.

There is a popular phrase in Colombia and it is "no dar papaya"This means do not expose yourself unnecessarily, do not go out with your camera hanging around your neck, your cell phone in your hand and showing the money you have in your wallet. Use the same precautions you have when you ride the subway in your city. Use common sense and take care of your belongings.

Is it safe to take cabs in Colombia's big cities?

Our recommendation is to avoid taking cabs on the street. As a safety measure use apps like EasyTaxi, Tappssi, Uber or Cabify. These apps can be used in almost every city in Colombia.

Is it safe to travel by bus on Colombia's highways?

Yes, you can travel on the popular routes in Colombia and you won't have any problems. For example, if you travel from Medellin to Bogota, or Bogota to Cali, or between any of the big cities, you can take the normal bus lines. But even in Colombia there are remote places such as jungle areas, and it is advisable to avoid road travel. If you have any doubt write to us.

What is security like in Colombia's large cities?

It is important that you make sure which is the best area to stay, in Latin America the centers of the cities are not the best option; in Cartagena de Indias is absolutely the opposite, the historic center is the best option to know Cartagena (although there are other beautiful hotels on the beach line on the outskirts).

  • Find out where the restaurants and bars are located in the cities you visit. If you travel with Go and Travel we will give you a travel guide with all the information you need to have a safe trip.
  • You also have to be especially careful in tourist areas or where there is an accumulation of people: it is the perfect working place for pickpockets.
  • Do not buy drugs, ever. Neither in big cities nor in remote places.
  • If you plan to visit a commune, as the favelas are known, find out beforehand what the situation is like and if there are conflicts there, and please go with a local person.
